Perinatal substance abuse programs are specialized treatment programs designed specifically for women who are:
- Pregnant
- Postpartum (first year of life)
- Parenting women (raising children ages 0 to 5)
The purpose of these treatment programs is to help women stop abusing drugs or alcohol. These are confidential (private) programs that focus on rehabilitating a mother’s life. Services are often at no cost so mothers may have a break from parenting so she may focus on her recovery and building a brighter future.
Services typically include:
- Individual treatment
- Family treatment
- Group counseling
- Health and nutrition education
- Parenting classes
- Skill building (e.g. relationship, self-esteem, coping)
- Resource and referral to other community programs to help the family (i.e., food pantries, free or low-cost dentistry, marriage counseling, etc.)
Services MAY also include:
- Child care
- Bus passes or other forms of transportation to help women get to the treatment program
- Developmental screenings for your infant / child
- Coordination of medical care
Types of Treatment MAY include:
- Residential (live-in program)
- Day treatment (e.g. 4 half-days a week)
- Outpatient (2-3 groups a week)
