Baby Blues

After pregnancy, the majority of women report having “baby blues” and this is completely normal.  It generally begins a few days after childbirth and usually ends in less than a few weeks.  Although baby blues symptoms are not as severe as postpartum depression, it is important for women to talk about their emotions and report these feelings with their healthcare provider or mental health therapist. Common symptoms are:

  • Mood swings
  • Sadness
  • Anxiety
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Have trouble sleeping or insomnia (even when the baby is sleeping)
  • Restlessness
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of  appetite
  • Weepiness or crying for no apparent reason
  • Impatience
  • Irritability
  • Poor concentration
